Challenge
The frequency of natural disasters has an increasing impact on the vulnerability of disadvantaged socioeconomic groups, where the abundance in short-term resources holds tremendous potential for local development. The ineffectiveness of collaboration between iNGOs, IGOs, governments, communities and the private sector results in donor-driven policies by foreign actors, troubling the transition from relief to rehabilitation and redevelopment however. The timeframe of aid programs and the difficulties with local regulations and information are reflected in compartmentalized approaches with conflicting ways of governing. Mission Increasing the effectiveness of multi-stakeholder urban development in disaster struck areas. Vision To facilitate linking relief, rehabilitation to redevelopment, OCUS uses the built environment to create mutual gains in single projects as early wins in sequence for development. Thereby, we connect the value of various resources mobilized by individual actors with consensus-based visions; using short-term iNGOs’ investments to promote long-term private sector development. |
